ASI Wicklow Services provides dementia specific, person-centred care in a number of ways: there are 2

Day Centres (Lily of the Valley, Rathdrum and St. Clare’s, Bray), a monthly Support Group for family-

members and carers (held in Arklow) and a bi-monthly Social Club, run by the Wicklow Branch, where

families can bring their loved one living with Dementia for coffee and a chat in an informal setting.

Day-centres can be accessed in a variety of ways – referral from local GPs, Public Health Nurses, Social

Workers or simply just calling or dropping by either Centre. An assessment and information exchange is

then carried out to ensure the Service is entirely suited to the person with dementia’s individual needs

and wishes.

The aim of the Day Centre is to assist people to continue living well with dementia through a variety of

person-centered activities and outings. A dedicated care-plan is offered to each individual to allow them

to make their own choices. Regular activities, such as music sessions, games, dancing, arts & crafts are

complimented by more Dementia specific ones such as the “Imagination Gym” and the upcoming

construction of a Sensory Garden in Lily of the Valley, Rathdrum. Clients (assisted by staff) are also

encouraged to do as much for themselves as possible, from setting tables for dinner, to ongoing DIY

projects such as the current redecoration of the Day Centre. Modern technology is being introduced to

enhance communication methods for Clients. The support and stimulation offered in the Day Centres

allows each person living with dementia the opportunity to maintain their social and personal skills.

The Day Centre service also includes tea / coffee on arrival and a hot lunch. Transport to and from each

Day Centre is also available.
